Today's nail art challenge theme is Horror Movies. Now, I'm not too big on the horror films, so I didn't have specific inspiration for these nails. I went with something typical of horror movies: blood and gore!

I started with a base coat of Sinful Colors Nail Hardener, two coats of OPI Skull & Glossbones (which I have swatched here), and mattified it with a coat of Butter London's Matte Topcoat. I was trying to get Skull & Glossbones to look as much like bone as possible. I think the matte effect worked towards that a little bit. Once that was all dry, I used OPI Got the Blues for Red, a really deep red, and a straw to make the blood spatters. I skipped the topcoat on this because I wanted the base color to remain matte finished so the shiny red spatter would stand out against it.

This was a fun mani to do! It was also really easy once I got the hang of getting enough polish on the straw to make a splatter. What worked best for me was to dip the end of the straw in a small puddle of polish and block the end with my tongue before positioning the straw over my nail and blowing a quick burst of air through the straw to spatter the polish.

In the end, I was really happy with how these turned out. The middle finger spatter is my favorite. That vision of what I wanted in my head actually was realized on my nails! That doesn't happen too often around here! I think this challenge is going to be fun!
More soon!! ^_^
